Red Mountain is Washington State’s smallest American Viticultural Area at just 4040 acres. The Red Mountain American Viticultural Area is Washington’s premier growing region, consistently producing fruit of balance, depth and complexity.

Red Mountain is hotter, drier, and windier than any other site in the state accumulating only 6 inches of rain annually. This limited rainfall necessitates the use of irrigation which allows the viticulturalist to stress the vines in order for them to focus on quality fruit production instead of foliage growth. The long warm days during the growing season ensure ripening, while cool nights allow the plants to maintain acidity. The vineyards on Red Mountain are the most prized in the state and the resulting wines are some of the most sought after in the world.

Bel’ Villa Vineyard is owned by Tom and Anne-marie Hedges of Hedges Family Estate, one of the most highly regarded Red Mountain wine producers. The Syrah block is located in the northwest corner of the vineyard and is planted on soil comprised of stratified slackwater sands and silts brought about by the ancient Missoula Floods. This fast draining soil offers a unique opportunity for the viticulturalist to balance vine survival with quality fruit production.
